Thyssen Inc., North America, Names Mr. Frederick Siegel, Vice President, Corporate Development

    DETROIT, Sept. 4 -- Thyssen Inc., N.A., announced today that
Mr. Frederick Siegel will join the company as Vice President, Corporate
Development, effective October 1, 1997.  In his new capacity, Mr. Siegel will
be on the corporate staff of Mr. Kenneth J. Graham, President/CEO, Thyssen
Inc., N.A.  Mr. Siegel comes to Thyssen Inc., N.A. from ALCOA, where he most
recently served as Vice President, Distribution Sales & Marketing.
    In a statement announcing his appointment to the newly created position at
Thyssen Inc., N.A., Mr. Kenneth J. Graham said, "We are extremely pleased to
have Mr. Siegel join Thyssen at this time.  His outstanding credentials and
experience in the metals business, particularly in aluminum sheet and plate,
will be invaluable in our efforts to expand the company's core non-ferrous
activities in North America."  Continuing, Mr. Graham noted that, "Mr. Siegel
will also play a key role in other areas of corporate development, including
the promotion of strategic synergies, such as potential product compatibility
applications, between the company's carbon steel and aluminum groups."
    The appointment follows the formation of the new TMX Division at Thyssen
Inc., N.A., an operating business group comprised of recently acquired Copper
and Brass Sales Inc., Clark Metals, Inc., Ken-Mac Metals Inc., AIN Plastics
Inc. together with the company's non-ferrous metal distributors, Thyssen
Specialty Steels, Inc. and affiliate, Thyssen Marathon Canada.  Also
commenting on the appointment, Mr. William Howenstein, President TMX, and
former Chairman of Copper and Brass Sales, stated that he "welcomed the
addition of Mr. Siegel" noting that "his background will provide a significant
contribution at TMX."  In this regard, Mr. Howenstein continued, "I look
forward to having Mr. Siegel work closely with me in the future."
