American Tire Appoints International Marketing Director

    RAVENNA, Ohio, Sept. 3 -- American Tire Corporation
(OTC: ATYR) is pleased to announce the appointment of Hugh Sims-Hilditch as
its worldwide Marketing Director.
    Mr. Sims-Hilditch has been a member of the Board of Directors of American
Tire Corporation since February 1997.  He is also the current Managing
Director for UTI Chemicals (Europe) Ltd., the company's subsidiary which was
acquired earlier this year.  "We are taking advantage of Hugh's experience and
expertise in marketing in the U.K and Europe.  His effort has established the
Urathon name as the urethane tire in Europe today."

help to successfully develop the tire markets in the United States and
