1998 Honda Civic Prices Up 0.8 Percent

    TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 3 -- Prices for the 1998 Honda Civic
Hatchback, Coupe and Sedan models will increase an average of 0.8 percent or
$119 based on a sales-weighted average, the Honda Division of American Honda
Motor Co., Inc., announced today.
    Most models feature additional standard equipment, ranging from power
steering on DX 2- and 3-door models to map lights on all EX models.  In
addition, all '98 Civic CX, DX and LX models are now equipped with advanced
emission control technology meeting California's low emission vehicle standard
and will be distributed in all 50 states.
    Base prices will start at $10,650 for the Civic CX Hatchback with a 5-
speed transmission.  The price of the best-selling model, the Civic LX Sedan
with an automatic transmission, is up $100 to $15,550.  Prices for the top-of-
the-line EX Sedan and Coupe models are unchanged.
    Transportation charges are unchanged at $395.
    The Civic is one of the five best-selling cars sold in America.  Sedan and
Coupe models are built by Honda of America Manufacturing in East Liberty,
Ohio.  Honda of Canada Manufacturing's Alliston Auto Plant in Ontario, builds
both Sedan and Hatchback models.
