Aeroquip-Vickers Files $200 Million Debt Shelf Registration Statement

    MAUMEE, Ohio, Aug. 29 -- Aeroquip-Vickers, Inc.
today filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission a shelf registration
statement of $200 million of debt securities.  Combined with $50 million of
debt securities carried forward from a previously filed registration
statement, Aeroquip-Vickers may offer up to $250 million of debt securities
consisting of debentures, notes or other unsecured evidences of indebtedness.
    The securities may be offered from time to time as separate series, in
amounts, at prices and on terms to be determined at the time of sale.  The
company may sell the securities to or through underwriters and also may sell
the securities directly to dealers, other purchasers or through agents.
    Aeroquip-Vickers intends to use the net proceeds from any sale of the
securities for general corporate purposes which may include the reduction of
short-term borrowings and the repayment of certain indebtedness.
    A registration statement relating to the securities has been filed with
the Securities and Exchange Commission, but has not yet become effective.
These securities may not be sold nor may offers to buy be accepted prior to
the time the registration statement becomes effective.  This press release
