Donnelly Wins QS 9000 Certification for All West Michigan Automotive Operations

    HOLLAND, Mich., Aug. 27 -- Donnelly Corporation ,
one of West Michigan's leading automotive suppliers, has been certified for
QS 9000 registration at all six of its automotive manufacturing operations in
West Michigan.
    "This is a huge accomplishment, one that Donnelly employees throughout
West Michigan have worked hard to achieve," said Donn Viola, chief operating
officer for North America.  "QS 9000 defines a world-class approach to quality
of process and product.  By earning this designation throughout all of our
Michigan automotive operations, we are demonstrating to the marketplace our
ability to compete on a world-class basis."
    Four of the six Donnelly plants that earned QS 9000 certification are
located in Holland, Michigan.  The others are located in Grand Haven and
Newaygo.
    QS 9000 is the set of quality requirements established primarily by the
U.S. "Big Three" automakers to reduce the confusion and cost that arose when
automotive suppliers had to meet a different set of quality standards for each
of their customers.  QS 9000 is derived from ISO 9001, the international
standards for manufacturing quality, but includes requirements and
measurements that are specific to the auto industry.
    General Motors, Ford and Chrysler require their suppliers to meet QS 9000
standards in order to win new business contracts.  Several heavy-duty truck
manufacturers and other companies have QS 9000 requirements as well.
