The Timken Company's Bearing Business Names Two Executives to New Positions

    CANTON, Ohio, Aug. 26 -- Continuing its commitment to improve
performance for customers and shareholders and to grow the company profitably,
The Timken Company's Bearing Business has named two individuals to new
positions.  Georges C. Lammoglia has been named director _ manufacturing,
technology and logistics in the company's Europe, Africa and West Asia Bearing
Business.  Michael C. Arnold has been named director _ bearing business
process advancement and controller.
    "In the past two years, Georges has integrated successfully our Bearing
Business operations throughout our markets and geographic regions," said
Robert L. Leibensperger, executive vice president and president _ bearings.
"His leadership has resulted in marked improvement in service to our customers
around the world.  Georges brings to our European bearing manufacturing unit a
wealth of knowledge and experience that will foster continued growth and
performance improvement in these operations," said Mr. Leibensperger.
    "In this position, Georges will lead our initiative to achieve excellence
in our European manufacturing operations," said Jon T. Elsasser, vice
president _ bearings _ Europe, Africa and West Asia.  "In addition, Georges'
responsibilities will be expanded to include customer order fulfillment and
logistics.  This reflects our need to link manufacturing and logistics more
closely as a result of our acquisitions and other growth activities in
Europe."
    In his new responsibilities, Mr. Arnold's timely integration of business
process advancement will be essential to support the company's rapid rate of
growth.  "Mike's strategic savvy and successful experiences in our U.S. and
European manufacturing operations will ensure continued synergy of ideas,
strategies and tactics among the Bearing Business groups throughout the
company's worldwide operations," said Mr. Leibensperger.
    Mr. Lammoglia began his career with the company in 1975 at the company's
Colmar, France, plant as an engineer trainee in production planning.  He has
served in numerous manufacturing and management positions in Europe, India,
Brazil and the U.S.  In 1987, he was named managing director of Tata Timken
Limited.  In 1993, he served as director _ human resources and logistics _
Europe, Africa and West Asia, and in 1994 was named director-president of
Timken do Brasil.  Most recently, he was vice president _ bearing business
process advancement and controller.
    Mr. Lammoglia holds a graduate engineering degree in physics and
metallurgy from the Institute National Sciences Appliquees and a master's
degree in management from the Sloan School at the Massachusetts Institute of
Technology.
    Mr. Arnold joined the company in 1979 as an associate sales engineer in
Canton.  He progressed through sales positions in Cleveland and Detroit until
he returned to Canton in 1988.  He subsequently served in marketing
development and manufacturing positions, including project manager _ 21st
Century _ Asheboro and general manager _ Asheboro Plant.  In 1996, he was
named director _ manufacturing and technology _ Europe, Africa and West Asia,
his most recent position.
    A native of Akron, Ohio, he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical
engineering and a master's degree in sales and marketing, both from The
University of Akron.  He also has completed the Advanced Management Program at
Harvard University.
