Continental Ranked Best OE Passenger Tire By J.D. Power and Associates Study

CHARLOTTE, NC., Aug. 25 /CNW-PRN/ - J.D. Power and Associates, the
international marketing information firm (best known for its expertise in
measuring customer satisfaction) recognized Continental as the best OE
passenger tire in a study released this week. Continental tires led the
overall ranking for passenger vehicles in the 1997 Original Equipment Tire
Study, which looks at things like safety and traction, wearability, ride and
special traction.
``Continental General Tire has invested more than $1 billion dollars in
the past decade to ensure our tires are leaders in engineering design, safety
and long life,'' said Bernd Frangenberg, President and C.E.O. ``We believe the
J.D. Power and Associates study shows that our determination to produce the
best tires in the world is being recognized where it matters -- with the
customer.''
The just released J.D. Power and Associates study on Original Equipment
Tire Satisfaction was based on the experiences of 15,700 consumers.
Continental tires benefit from the research and development commitment of
the company in both Europe and North America. Teams on both continents are
working together to produce better products.
Continental tires are original equipment on some of the world's most
prestigious cars including Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Audi. Most recently the
Continental tire was selected for the Lincoln Navigator, Ford Motor Company's
new luxury sport utility vehicle.
``We have focused on improving our products and manufacturing processes to
ensure Continental tires are of highest quality and competitively priced. Our
future plans include new and even more exciting products, and an expanded
marketing effort to build consumer awareness for the Continental and General
brands,'' Frangenberg added.
Continental General Tire Inc. is a major supplier of tires to the original
equipment and replacement markets. The company had 1996 sales of $1.4 billion
and is the North American arm of Continental AG, the world's fourth largest
tire manufacturer.
