Volvo Rated Top Environmental Car Brand and Second Overall Environmental Brand in Japanese SurveyROCKLEIGH, N.J., Aug. 25 -- Volvo's environmental efforts were lauded by Japanese executives in a recent study done by Nikkei Newspaper Company. According to a recent Nikkei publication in which the results were reported, "A questionnaire was sent to the officials responsible for environmental issues at 260 major companies, 148 of which responded. They were asked to give the names of three Japanese or non-Japanese companies other than their own which in their opinion had excellent records with regard to the environment. They were also asked to rank them." Volvo was the top car brand named in the survey, and placed second among all companies worldwide. Volvo's "involvement in the recycling of materials" and "its releasing of its own environmental data" were credited for the high ranking, along with Volvo's environmental advertising strategy in Japan. "Environmental care, safety and quality are Volvo's three core values, and factor into each decision the company makes," says Helge Alten, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America, Inc. "It is an honor to have our efforts recognized and be named a leader by our peers in the business community." NEC, a Japanese computer company, took first place overall in the survey.
