Auto-Tech '97 Breaks Boundaries in the Global Market

SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Aug. 18 -- To ease the burden of recent
trade modifications placed on automotive manufacturers and their suppliers,
the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) is working with a number of
organizations to simplify the industry's expansion in the global marketplace.
Several sessions at the AIAG's upcoming AUTO-TECH '97 Conference and
Exposition -- August 26-28 at Detroit's Cobo Center -- will help companies
with content reporting, trade automation and the legal implications of trade
redesign.
AUTO-TECH international trade sessions are designed to assist companies in
adjusting to the globalization of the supplier community. Managers and
personnel responsible for customs operations within a company will have a
variety of resources available to help them understand and comply with NAFTA,
United States Customs procedures and the Customs Modernization Act (MOD Act).
Key trade and customs sessions include:
    * Trade Automation: Moving to the 21st Century
This industry initiative can help speed the movement of cargo
across North American borders by using an automated system to
       reduce customs processing time.
A prototype demonstration is scheduled for Tuesday, August 26 at
       10:30 a.m.

    * North American Customs Town Meeting
To help carriers, importers, exporters and brokers with their pressing
trade questions, a special town meeting will be held Tuesday, August 26
       at 2:45 p.m.

    *  Brazilian Import Entry Procedures
Suppliers rushing to tap into this lucrative South American market will
discover the "ins and outs" of Brazilian customs procedures on
       Wednesday, August 27 at 11:00 a.m.

Other trade sessions offered at AUTO-TECH '97 will assist attendees with
importing, exporting and customs procedures, while helping them improve
business processes and avoid penalty actions by customs.

Founded in 1982, AIAG is a not-for-profit trade association of more than
1,300 North American auto and truck manufacturers and their suppliers.
Originally recognized for its efforts to standardize electronic data
interchange (EDI) and bar code standards to assist Tier One suppliers, AIAG's
mission has expanded to cover all levels of the OEM supply chain, as well as
to include numerous programs and initiatives aimed at improving its members'
productivity and quality. More information about AIAG and the annual AUTO-
