General Motors Delegation Presents Supplier of Year Award to Hardinge

ELMIRA, N.Y., Aug. 12 -- Representatives of General Motors
Corporation today visited the Elmira headquarters of Hardinge Inc.
, a leading producer of machine tools, to present the company
with its third consecutive Supplier of the Year Award.
Winners of the award are chosen on the basis of quality, service and price
and have been described by the head of GM's worldwide purchasing operations as
"the best of the best" in their industries. Only 173 of GM's more than
30,000 suppliers received the award this year.
The Hardinge presentation was made by members of a GM delegation including
Woody Williams, the auto manufacturer's executive director -
indirect/machinery and equipment purchasing; Tom McCaskill, director -
machinery, equipment and indirect purchasing; Paul Loukes, purchasing manager
- machinery and equipment, and a senior buyer, Judy Revells.
The ceremony was attended by local government officials, all managers at
Hardinge headquarters, and a representative group of 200 company employees.
Robert E. Agan, chairman and chief executive officer of Hardinge, said the
company's selection for the award in 1994, 1995 and 1996 demonstrates that it
is providing its customers with superior products and services "consistently,
year after year, in ways that only a tiny minority of companies can equal."
Hardinge Inc., founded more than 100 years ago, is an international leader
in the machine tool industry. The company designs and manufactures computer-
numerically controlled metal-cutting lathes, machining centers, Kellenberger
