Envirotest Systems Corp. Begins Trading on AMEXNEW YORK, Aug. 11 -- The American Stock Exchange today began trading the common stock of Envirotest Systems Corp. (Amex: ENR), the largest provider of vehicle inspection services in the country and the only domestic company that provides vehicle inspection services outside the United States. Chester C. Davenport, Chairman of Envirotest, stated, "We are pleased that Envirotest now will have the prestige and stability of the American Stock Exchange underlining the trading in its shares. Listing on the Amex will further enhance the visibility of Envirotest shares for investors." Envirotest, based in Sunnyvale, California, provides governmental authorities an all-inclusive service whereby it designs, constructs, and operates centralized vehicle emissions programs. The company conducts its tests through centralized and decentralized programs which are established in accordance with federal regulations for testing motor vehicles emissions for compliance with air pollution standards. Envirotest's services include: designing a network that provides convenience to motorists; identifying and procuring adequate inspection sites; constructing emissions facilities with multiple testing lanes; designing and installing a vehicle emissions inspection system and computer network to collect and process emissions testing data; and managing and operating the inspection program using software and equipment developed by the company. Trading under the ticker symbol ENR, the stock opened on a quote of 3 to 3-1/8. Spear, Leeds & Kellogg has been chosen as the specialist unit for the company. The company's shares previously traded on the Nasdaq National Market System.
