Jim Selwa Joins Panoz Motor Sports, Goal is Expansion and Road Atlanta DevelopmentBRASELTON, Ga., Aug. 8 -- Donald Panoz, president of Panoz Motor Sports, today announced the appointment of James G. Selwa, 46, as the company's executive vice president and chief operating officer. In his new position, Selwa is responsible for all Panoz racing activities, including its sports car programs in Europe and the United States. He also takes charge of the revitalization and renovation of the Road Atlanta race course. The company's goal is to make the track into a premier motor sports facility, capable of hosting Formula One, CART, or other major events by 1999. In addition, Selwa will be an advisor on the expansion of the Panoz Auto Development Company, founded by Daniel Panoz, president, who is Donald's son. This company produces limited-production sports cars, including the Panoz roadster, that make extensive use of aluminum in their construction. The potential is enormous, not only for Panoz as a cutting-edge car builder, but also for the track as a world-class racing facility and as a site for a variety of special events." Selwa joins Panoz Motor Sports following two years as president and CEO of Lotus Cars USA, importer of the British-built Lotus Esprit V8 supercar. Prior to his tenure at Lotus, he served for eight years as chairman and CEO of a marketing services company in Michigan, whose clients included Rolls- Royce Motor Cars, Lamborghini, Volvo and General Motors. Selwa is a resident of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and attended the business school at Oakland University. He began his career at American Motors in 1971 as a product specialist, then joined the marketing department of Volvo Cars of North America in 1977.
