DENSO to Build Canadian Manufacturing FacilitySOUTHFIELD, Mich., August 6 -- DENSO International America, Inc. in Southfield, Mich., today announced DENSO will build its first Canadian manufacturing facility in Guelph, Ont., to produce car air conditioners for Canadian carmakers. At full production, DENSO expects to employ 150 people with production of 35,000 air conditioners per month. DENSO's investment in the new operation totals $33 million in Canadian dollars. The Guelph facility will be part of DENSO Sales Canada, which historically was DENSO's second North American location. Established in 1972, DENSO Sales Canada currently employs 22 people in Mississauga, Ont., for sales of automotive original equipment and aftermarket components. In North America, DENSO, a leading global supplier of advanced technology, systems and components to all the world's carmakers, employs 7,500 people at 13 North American sites. Eleven are manufacturing facilities. Worldwide, DENSO has operations in 23 countries. With this facility, we will be able to ship Canadian-made components directly to carmakers, helping them to better support expanding auto production in Canada, a DENSO spokesperson explained. Construction of the 112,000-square-foot building is expected to start at the end of this year. Production is scheduled to begin in 1999. In early 1998, DENSO Sales Canada will change its name to DENSO Manufacturing Canada, Inc. as part of the change in operations. DENSO Sales Canada Manufacturing Facility Location: Guelph, Ont.
