Toyota Announces 1998 Camry Prices

TORRANCE, Calif., Aug. 5 -_ Toyota Motor Sales (TMS), USA,
Inc., announced today that prices for the 1998 Camry have increased an average
of 1.7 percent or $343 over 1997 prices.
Manufacturer's suggested retail prices range from $16,938 for the base CE
model equipped with a five-speed manual transmission to $24,868 for the top-
of-the-line XLE model with a V6 engine.
TMS attributes the price increases to the addition of customer-preferred
standard equipment including upgraded seat fabrics, improved sound systems,
anti-theft alarms, front seat belt pretensioners with force-limiters and timed
intermittent wipers.
The current-generation Camry, America's best-selling passenger car, was
introduced last fall specifically for the American market with more power,
increased fuel economy and better safety features than previous models. Most
Camrys sold in the U.S. are manufactured at Toyota's $3.9-billion plant in
Georgetown, Ky.
Toyota previously announced prices for the 1998 Tacoma pickup truck, which
is built exclusively at New United Motor Manufacturing, Inc., a joint venture
with General Motors in Fremont, Calif. Pricing on other 1998 Toyota models
will be announced at a later date.
