Chrysler International Announces July Sales

Growth in South America Fuels July Record for Chrysler International SalesAUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 5 -- Fueled by rapid growth in South American markets, Chrysler Corporation's sales outside North America totaled 21,259 vehicles in July, a 2 percent increase from a year ago and the best month ever for Chrysler International. The previous any-month sales record was 21,177, set in June 1997. The total for July 1996 was 20,750. Chrysler International's sales from January through July were 137,435 vehicles, a 9 percent increase from the January-July 1996 total of 126,223. Total Latin America sales in July were 4,315, up 126 percent from a year ago. Sales in Venezuela totaled 2,009, up 295 percent from July 1996. In Brazil, the increase was even greater -- sales of 1,015 represented a 473 percent gain. For the year to date, Latin America sales were up 138 percent from the 1996 January-July total. Middle East/Africa region sales were 1,756, up 2 percent from July 1996. Chrysler International sales in Europe were 9,749, off 6 percent from a year ago.
