Audi's July Sales Best in Ten Years - Highest Since 1987

    AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Aug. 4 -- Audi of America, Inc. reported
U.S. sales of 2,832 for the month of July, representing a 30.1 percent
increase over the same month last year when sales were 2,177.
    It was Audi's best July since 1987.  Audi has demonstrated this kind of
year-over-previous-year sales increase for 31 of the last 32 months.
    Sales of the A4 2.8 took center stage accounting for 42.9 percent of total
Audi sales for the month of July.  The A4 1.8 T continued its strong sales
momentum achieving 26.9 percent of total sales for the month.  Demand for
quattro all wheel drive equipped vehicles, an Audi exclusive, remains high at
84.7 percent of all Audi's sold during the month of July.
    So far in 1997, Audi has sold 19,851 automobiles representing a 33.4
percent increase over the same period last year when the total was 14,879.
