Cambridge Industries Captures Automobile Plant Managers Award For Superior Performance

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich., Aug. 1 -- Cambridge Industries'
Lenoir, N.C. plant recently won the Honda of America Manufacturing, Inc.
Marysville Automobile Plant Managers Award for superior performance and
support. Cambridge designed special tooling needed to produce the rear bumper
beam to meet the Honda Accord production schedule.
Cambridge's Lenoir, N.C. plant produced the compression-molded bumper on a
1,500-ton press using custom-made dual cavity tooling, resulting in a
component that weighs 15 percent less than previous models. Cambridge, a
leading supplier of exterior structural/functional and interior components and
systems to the global automotive industry, completed specification tests and
produced parts within two weeks of the tool transfer.
"We recognize and appreciate that Cambridge associates worked long hours
to produce the tooling required and meet the production schedule," said Brian
Phillips, assistant manager of the Honda Cost Procurement Division.
"Satisfying our ultimate customers' needs presents an endless challenge, and
Cambridge helped us achieve this challenge. That's why it is my great
pleasure to present the entire team at Cambridge Industries an award for
performance beyond normal expectations."
"We appreciate the opportunity to build a working relationship with
Honda," said Bill Sick, executive vice president of marketing and business
development at Cambridge. "This award demonstrates a commitment to expand our
process and materials menus to offer customers design flexibility and process
diversity to most effectively meet their needs."
