Borg-Warner Automotive Honors Employees with Creativity Awards at Worldwide Leadership Meeting

    CHICAGO, Aug. 1 -- Eleven Borg-Warner Automotive
employees were honored today for their contributions and creativity in Product
Development, Operational Innovation and Customer/Marketing Service.
    "Honoring our employees for their creativity in technology and
relationship building is important to our mission of being recognized as a
leader in advanced powertrain solutions," said John F. Fiedler, chairman and
chief executive officer of Borg-Warner Automotive, in presenting the awards at
the company's Worldwide Leadership Meeting.
    Each of the four operating groups of Borg-Warner Automotive elected
personnel from various departments for the awards.  The employees were honored
at a special dinner ceremony.

    Product Development Excellence:
    Based on their numerous and inventive solutions to changing feature
requirements for a 1998 Chrysler induction module, awards went to John
Duddles, supervisor of engineering, and Mike Halsig, design leader at
Air/Fluid Systems located in Warren, Michigan.
    Dr. Robert Lam, manager advance friction technology, Automatic
Transmission Systems located in Lombard, Illinois, was honored for his work in
the development of an innovative product whereby high heat performance of
carbon based materials can be achieved at a low cost.

    Operational Innovation Excellence:
    Robert "Bud" Vergason, manger tool design for Morse TEC, Ithaca, New York,
received an operational innovation excellence award for his work.  Bud's most
recent efforts led to a modified assembly process which resulted in improved
quality and efficiency.
    Automatic Transmission System employees Anthony Grzesiak, new technology
manager; David Vierk, MAJI program engineer; Kurt Heberling, launch
engineering manager; Mike Smith, senior manufacturing engineer, Frankfort,
Illinois; and James Quigley, manager of advance manufacturing engineering,
Lombard, Illinois were recognized for producing a unique surface treatment for
friction material which reduces break-in variation.  This new treatment
resulted in new business with Ford as well as secured a current multi-million
dollar contract with the auto maker.

    Customer/Marketing Excellence:
    John C. Lewis, director of sales, Pacific Rim, Powertrain Systems,
Sterling Heights, Michigan, has laid the foundation for a successful
partnership through his work in developing relationships with the company's
new joint venture in India, Divgi-Warner, and the customer base of Telco and
Mahindra & Mahindra.
    Scott Gailett, sales manager for Morse TEC, Sterling Heights, Michigan,
received the customer/marketing excellence award for his work on cost
reduction efforts while meeting tight deadlines and expanding the current
business relationship with Ford's global operations.
