Budget Group Closes on Purchase of Premier Car Rental

    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., July 31 -- Budget Group, Inc.
,  announces it has closed on the acquisition of Cleveland,
Ohio-based Premier Car Rental, Inc.
    Jeff Congdon, vice chairman of Budget Group, Inc. and president of Budget
Car Sales will oversee the new subsidiary, which will continue to operate
under the Premier brand name, serving the insurance replacement market.
Premier's president, Alan Herzog, will leave the company.
    Premier has a network of 101 locations in 13 major U.S. markets with more
than 9,000 cars.  The company employs about 700 workers.
    "The acquisition of Premier allows us to effectively compete in the
insurance replacement market with an established brand name and creates
synergies with our other businesses," states Sandy Miller, chairman and CEO of
Budget Group.
    "We expect that the acquisition will not affect earnings in the remainder
of 1997 and will be slightly additive in 1998," added Miller.
    Budget Group and its franchisees operate Budget Car and Truck Rental, the
third largest worldwide car and truck rental system, with over 3,200 airport
and local market locations in more than 120 countries and territories.  Budget
Group is also one of the largest independent retailers of late model vehicles
in the United States, operating 23 retail car sales facilities under the name
Budget Car Sales.  The Company also operates airport parking facilities at
certain locations and leases vans for van pooling operations in 28 states.
