AlliedSignal Automotive Forms Automotive Products Group, Names Summe President of New BusinessSOUTHFIELD, Mich., July 28 -- AlliedSignal Automotive announced today that it has formed a new business, Automotive Products Group, by combining Aftermarket North America, Aftermarket Europe, Prestone, Friction Materials, Filters and Spark Plugs, and its Asian operations. Greg Summe, currently president of the Engines business at AlliedSignal Aerospace, will become president of the Automotive Products Group, which will be based in Morristown, New Jersey. He will report to John Barter, president of AlliedSignal Automotive. Steve Loranger, president of Truck Brake Systems at AlliedSignal Automotive, will succeed Summe as president of Engines. A successor to Loranger at Truck Brake Systems will be named soon. The new business, which will serve aftermarket customers as well as original equipment manufacturers, is intended to improve customer focus and increase growth by managing business globally and by creating a more seamless alignment of sales and marketing with manufacturing and engineering. "This is an important step in improving the focus of our Automotive business," said AlliedSignal Automotive President John Barter. "We have a strong market position in the products served by this combined business and we plan to build from that base to strengthen and grow this new organization." Summe joined AlliedSignal in 1993 as president of Aerospace's General Aviation Avionics business. He became president of Engines in October 1995. Prior to AlliedSignal, Greg was general manager of the Commercial Motors and Distribution business of the Electric Motors Division of General Electric in Ft. Wayne, Ind. Prior to GE, he was a partner at McKinsey & Co. Before joining Truck Brake Systems in 1995, Loranger had been vice president for air transport Auxiliary Power Units and vice president of sales and marketing for AlliedSignal Engines. He joined AlliedSignal in 1981 as an Aerospace sales engineer.
