Johnson Controls Declares Cash Dividend

     MILWAUKEE, July 23 -- The Board of Directors of Johnson
Controls, Inc. (JCI) today declared a regular quarterly cash
dividend of $0.215 per common share.  The dividend is payable September 30,
1997 to shareholders of record September 10, 1997.
     Johnson Controls has paid consecutive dividends since 1885.
     Johnson Controls, Inc., with headquarters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a
