Two Named to Executive Positions in The Timken Company's Bearing Business

    CANTON, Ohio, July 21 -- As part of The Timken Company's
continuing commitment to strengthen the leadership of its Bearing
Business, two individuals have been named to new positions.  Scott C. Mathot
has been named director -- global capacity and inventory management --
bearings.  Assuming Mr. Mathot's responsibilities in the super-precision
bearing business is Donna J. Demerling, who has been named president - MPB
Corporation.  MPB is a Timken Company subsidiary.
    "Scott's extensive experience over the years in the Bearing Business'
operations has prepared him well for the challenges of this newly created
position," said Georges Lammoglia, vice president - bearing business process
advancement and controller.  "To keep pace with our company's rapid growth
throughout the world, the Bearing Business must develop a system for global
capacity planning and expansion."  Mr. Mathot will lead this initiative, which
includes development of the business systems for long-range forecasting and
capacity planning, as well as management of worldwide capacity and inventory
for the Bearing Business.
    In her new position, Ms. Demerling will assume full responsibility for MPB
Corporation.  "Donna's expertise in business and strategic management, and her
solid commitment to satisfying customers will serve MPB well," said Salvatore
J. Miraglia, Jr., vice president - bearings - North American industrial and
super-precision.  "Her proven leadership abilities will drive MPB's
continuously improving performance into the 21st century as it grows its
aerospace and super-precision markets."
    Mr. Mathot joined the company in 1970 as a project man in the company's
bearing operations.  He subsequently held a number of operations management
positions including director - manufacturing - bearings - North and South
America, and director - super-precision bearing business.  Most recently, he
was president - MPB Corporation.
    A native of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Mr. Mathot earned a bachelor's degree in
physics and mathematics from Ripon College and a master's degree in business
management from Indiana University.  He also has completed the Advanced
Management Program at the Harvard University Graduate School of Business
Administration.
    Ms. Demerling began her career with the company in 1972 as an associate
engineer in Canton.  She progressed through several engineering positions,
including chief product acceptance engineer, and manager - production
operations at the Lincolnton Bearing Plant in North Carolina.  Most recently,
she served as general manager - Bucyrus Operations in Bucyrus, Ohio.
    A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Ms. Demerling earned a bachelor's degree in
mechanical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a master's
degree in management from Stanford University's Sloan Program.  She also has
completed the management program for executives at the University of
Pittsburgh.
