Buick Sponsors 1997 La Raza Annual ConferenceFLINT, Mich., July 18 -- For the fourth year in a row, Buick is sponsoring the annual conference of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR). Entitled Latinos: No Challenges Unmet. No Issues Unanswered, the event -- which is considered by many to be the single most important national event in the Hispanic community -- will be held July 20-23, 1997, at Navy Pier in Chicago. Established in 1968, the NCLR is the largest organization serving all Hispanic nationalities in the United States and Puerto Rico. The Council reaches more than 2 million Hispanics through a network of more than 200 groups and organizations. More than 15,000 people are expected to attend this year's conference that will feature workshops and training, on key issues critical to the Latino community, from welfare reform to immigration, to fund-raising and non-profit management. Buick is sponsoring the three-day conference jointly with General Motors and is the sole GM division sponsor of the event. Buick LeSabres and Regals will be on display at the conference. Dedicated to serving as a voice for Hispanic Americans in Washington D.C., the NCLR is recognized for its expertise on Hispanic-identified issues including immigration and education. The group is also sought for its opinion on broader issues ranging from free trade to race relations, health policy and tax reform. SOURCE Buick Motor Division
