Delco Remy America Earns GM Supplier of the Year Award

    ANDERSON, Ind., July 15 -- Today, Delco Remy America (DRA)
was awarded the 1996 General Motors Supplier of the Year Award by Otto Jetter,
Executive Director - Electrical for General Motors Worldwide Purchasing, in
ceremonies held at the new American Way plant in Anderson.  Tom Endres,
Director of Chemical & Electrical Purchasing for General Motors Powertrain
Group, also presented DRA with a certificate awarding future new business.
The companies receiving the 1996 Supplier of the Year Award were selected from
a GM supply base of over 30,000 supplier firms.
    "Suppliers recognized as GM's Supplier of the Year demonstrated throughout
1996 that they are the Best of the Best in their respective businesses.  These
companies are truly globally competitive and are worldwide leaders in the
areas of product development, technology, manufacturing, continuous
improvement, value and most importantly, quality," noted Harold R. Kutner,
GM's vice president for worldwide purchasing.
    Delco Remy America, Inc., was formed in 1994, as a privately held company,
a partial divestiture, now led by former Chrysler executive, Harold K.
Sperlich.  DRA manufactures and remanufactures automotive starters, as well as
heavy-duty starters and alternators for more than 250 vehicle and equipment
O.E.M.s around the world.
    Sales in 1996 totaled more than $600 million.  The company has dedicated
more than $50 million recently to upgrade equipment, open several new Anderson
facilities and achieve internationally recognized quality standards, a QS9000
rating.
