American Woman Motorscene Publisher and Editor Named to Launch California Chapter of National Women's Automotive AssociationSANTA MONICA, Calif., July 15 -- The National Women's Automotive Association launches its fifth chapter in slightly more than a year in the largest new car-buying market in the world -- Los Angeles -- when it hosts its first meeting on September 12, 1997, with sponsorship support from Chevrolet. Selected by the NWAA Executive Board to spearhead the new California chapter as its Executive Director is Courtney Caldwell, publisher and editor-in-chief of American Woman Motorscene magazine. "The response in Southern California where most of the foreign automakers call home and where all the domestics are represented has been outstanding," explained Caldwell. "Our first mailing was to more than 700 women who have expressed an interest in this much-needed organization, which is long overdue. We fully anticipate that the Los Angeles chapter quickly will become the NWAA's largest membership base of energetic, highly-motivated business women who share common interests." Caldwell, who single-handedly launched the now nine-year old national American Woman Motorscene magazine, credits her NWAA appointment to a concerted desire of continuously educating, motivating and empowering working and active women -- regardless of industry, "American Woman Motorscene is full of practical and informative every day informative every day 'How To's,' safety and travel tips and interesting profiles on dynamic industry women. It's written for and about successful women," said Caldwell. Caldwell is considered one of the leading authorities on the enormous $65 billion women's automotive market. She recently chaired the automotive track of the Working Women "Marketing to Women" Congress in New York and will present American Woman Motorscene's 6th Annual Marketing to Women seminar at the 1997 SEMA show on November 5 in Las Vegas at the Chevrolet-sponsored event. In addition, Caldwell is a highly sought-after spokesperson within the women's market, having recently appeared on numerous national television programs, such as CNN, The Tom Snyder Show, Good Morning America and ESPN, among many others. The NWAA, which was founded by Lorraine Schultz, recently celebrated its one year anniversary in January where it announced achieving its one year membership goal. "There is a great deal of potential in the California area and I am sure it will be beneficial for the NWAA due to the caliber of people and the influence they most likely will have with the automotive manufacturers," remarked Schultz. "It also will help a great deal towards building our scholarships fund." The scholarship fund is a key goal of the NWAA and was established to raise funds for women seeking to improve or launch careers in the automotive business. Schultz and Caldwell both agree that these scholarships play an integral part towards ensuring the next generation of women automotive executives for years to come.
