Traditional Vacations Are Out -- Adventure Is in at Camp JeepThis Summer Thousands of VEHICLES Will be Taking Their OWNERS on Vacation AUBURN HILLS, Mich., July 14 -- Seeking to quench their thirst for adventure, thousands of Jeep(R) enthusiasts from across the country will be converging in the magnificent Colorado Rockies for the third annual Camp Jeep(TM), August 1-3. A national study estimates that 84 percent of this summer's approximately 186 million vacations will be made by vehicle, 52 percent of which will be weekend getaways. Wanting more than traditional sight-seeing out of their vacation experience, families are turning to Camp Jeep for a unique vacation alternative featuring the great outdoors as the backdrop. Taking place at historic Camp Hale, 25 miles southeast of Vail, Camp Jeep is designed to let Jeep owners, their families and friends learn more about their vehicle's off-highway capabilities in a safe and environmentally-responsible manner. The three-day event features an assortment of outdoor activities focusing on the environment, education and entertainment. Activities include off-highway driving and instruction, mountain biking, fly-fishing, all-terrain mountain boarding, archery, white-water rafting, Frisbee(R) golf, and outdoor concerts throughout the weekend featuring nationally-known musical artists, including Rosanne Cash and Tom Chapin. An interactive Family Activity Center is designed to leave a lasting impression on participants of all ages. Children will be entertained by activities including a mini Jeep 101 course, arts and crafts, puppet shows, storytelling of the American West and nature scavenger hunts. In its third year, Camp Jeep has attracted more than 6,000 participants from 45 states. "Camp Jeep provides family vacationers from across the country the chance to enjoy an adventurous vacation destination," said Martin R. Levine, General Manager, Chrysler/Plymouth/Jeep/Eagle Division. "One-on-one interaction with Jeep owners offers us the opportunity to gain valuable feedback from our customers and provides them the chance to get to know the people behind the Jeep brand." Under the instruction of experienced guides, participants will learn the basics of safe and responsible off-highway driving and the capabilities of Jeep Wrangler, Cherokee and Grand Cherokee on special Jeep 1O1 training courses. They will then have the opportunity to test their abilities on the more than 300 miles of surrounding trails rated according to level of difficulty. In roundtable discussions, owners can interact with Jeep engineers, learn about the latest in 4x4 technology and receive updates on product developments. Camp Jeep is working with the USDA Forest Service to ensure that the Camp Hale site is properly protected and maintained. The program includes a reclamation project intended to leave Camp Hale in the same or better condition than it was prior to the event. Additionally, participants are invited to contribute to the preservation of the area by planting a tree before the weekend concludes. Registration is unchanged from last year at $195 per vehicle (there is no per-person charge) and includes participation in all activities, excluding white-water rafting which is offered at a discounted rate.
