Toyota Plant To Begin Taking Employment ApplicationsPUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va., July 7 -- Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Inc. will begin taking applications for production jobs in early August. The West Virginia Job Service will accept the applications at the Putnam County Technical Center located in Eleanor, WV. Advertisements will be placed in several West Virginia newspapers and will contain an 800 number interested persons will need to call to make an appointment to fill out an application. "Scheduling appointments assures each applicant receives equal consideration for the team member positions," said Steve Stalnaker, Manager of Human Resources for Toyota of West Virginia. All Toyota employees are referred to as "team members" because teamwork and participation are fundamental to the Toyota Production System. Stalnaker said, "This application is the first of several phases of the selection process which is designed to ensure a good match between the team member and Toyota. The phases will include written testing, classroom work, simulated work situations and personal interviews which are used to evaluate interpersonal communication and team work skills as well as problem solving abilities. Because of the extensive process, the first production team members won't begin employment until early 1998." "Successful applicants will find Toyota a challenging and rewarding environment," said David Copenhaver, General Manager of Administration who indicated Toyota anticipates a large response to these first advertisements for production jobs. Interested persons will call 1-800-551-0177 between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., July 7 thru July 21, 1997, to schedule an appointment. The plant, currently under construction in Buffalo, is set to begin production of four cylinder engines for North American-made Corollas in late 1998.
