CMI International's Gary Ruff Awarded AFS Award of Scientific MeritFERNDALE, Mich., July 1 -- At the President's Luncheon of the American Foundrymen's Society (AFS) annual business meeting, Gary Ruff was presented with the AFS Award of Scientific Merit. Dr. Ruff is the Chief Technical Officer and Executive Vice President of CMI International, Inc. The award was presented to him for outstanding contributions in research, technical direction and product development to both the ferrous and nonferrous sectors of the foundry industry. Dr. Ruff has been a member of AFS since 1969. He has been chairman of the AFS Research Board, Chairman of the Cast Iron Division and is presently Chairman of the Division Council. He has authored over 20 papers on metal casting and given many presentations. Active in other industry associations, Ruff is a member of ASM International, the Society of Automotive Engineers, the American Institute of Metallurgical Engineers, and the Industrial Steering Group and Visiting Committee at Case Western Reserve University. Ruff received his bachelor's degree from General Motors Institute in mechanical engineering. He attended Case Western Reserve University and received his M.S. in metallurgical engineering and Doctorate in metallurgical and materials science. Ruff has been employed by General Motors and has been with CMI International since 1987.
