DENSO Awards Scholarships to 12 Oakland Schools' Students

    SOUTHFIELD, Mich., June 30 -- DENSO International America,
Inc. in Southfield, Mich., today announced recipients of the DENSO
Oakland Schools Educational Foundation scholarships.

    University scholarships of $2,000 each were awarded to:

    * Erin Baker, Southfield Lathrup High;
    * Daniel Gajinovich, Hazel Park High;
    * Heather Kortlandt, Novi High School;
    * Anastasios "John" Hart, Royal Oak Kimball High;
    * Rebecca Richard, South Lyon High;
    * Melissa Ohngren, Avondale High, and
    * Laurie Zeller, Waterford Mott.

    Interlochen and Blue Lake summer camp arts scholarships of $500-750 were
awarded to:

    * Jessica Holman, Clarkston Sashabaw Middle School;
    * Katie Reed, Waterford Kettering High;
    * Theresa Gunn, Southfield Lathrup High;
    * Shira Washington, Pontiac; Washington Junior High, and
    * Sherrie Savage, Oak Park Roosevelt Middle School.

    Since 1992, the DENSO Oakland Schools Educational Foundation has awarded a
total of nearly $70,000 in scholarships to 61 students.
    "We place a very high priority on education and training in the belief
that they are absolutely essential to the growth and well-being of the
communities in which we do business," said Andy Kataoka, DENSO International
America president.  "We hope these scholarships will help the students realize
their life-long dreams."
    The scholarship fund, established in 1991 with a $300,000 endowment from
DENSO, assists outstanding Oakland County high school students who have shown
academic excellence, meaningful community involvement and a financial need.
The fund also provides scholarships for secondary summer arts programs at
Interlochen and Blue Lake.
    Oakland Schools handles program administration and coordinates scholarship
selection.
