Hayes Wheels Extends Consent Solicitation

    ROMULUS, Mich., June 30 -- Hayes Wheels International, Inc.
announced today that it is extending its consent solicitation
of holders of its 11 percent Senior Subordinated Notes due 2006 regarding
proposed amendments to the indenture governing those notes until Monday, June
30, 1997, at 11 a.m., New York City time.  The consent solicitation, which
commenced on June 12, 1997, was previously scheduled to expire on Friday, June
27, 1997, at 5 p.m., New York City time.
    Hayes also announced that it had received consents from a majority of
registered holders and had entered into an amendment to the indenture
governing the notes.  In accordance with the terms of the consent
solicitation, the proposed amendments will not become operative until Hayes
gives notice to the trustee under the indenture of the consummation of the
previously announced acquisition of Lemmerz Holding GmbH.  Subject to the
terms and conditions of the consent solicitation, Hayes will pay a cash fee of
$2.50 per $1,000 principal amount of notes to all noteholders as of June 12,
1997 record date upon consummation of the consent solicitation.
