Rust Protection Experts Offer Advice on How to Know if Your Vehicle Has Been Rust-proofedTROY, Mich., June 10 -- In response to allegations from the Illinois Attorney General's Office last week that a Chicago-area auto dealer defrauded customers of rust protection services, Ziebart International Corp. offers these tips to consumers to determine if their vehicles have in fact been rust-proofed: 1. Ask to see the official, written rust protection specifications for the exact make and model of your vehicle. Do not accept verbal or general guidelines. All reputable companies will have these specifications in writing. (There are too many vehicle variations to perform the protection process from memory.) 2. Check the drain holes in the bottom edges of your car doors, hood and trunk for visual evidence of a sealant. A properly applied penetrating sealant will be visible and probably ooze from these holes. 3. Get down on your hands and knees and look under the car. Check to see that all visible areas of the vehicle's underside are covered with black undercoating sealant. "Consumers should not assume that all rust protection processes are the same or are properly applied. However, you can easily determine that rust protection has been performed by following these three simple steps," says Tom Walker, Ziebart's vice president of product management and director of the Ziebart Forum on Car Care Solutions, Ziebart's consumer education program. Established in 1963, Ziebart International offers more than 30 products and services, including rust protection, to protect and enhance the vehicles people drive.
