Ward's Reports Estimated Production
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 17 -- Vehicle production in the
U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit 335,467 units this week, including
180,893 cars and 154,574 trucks, according to Ward's Automotive Reports. The
total marks a 5.4 percent increase from the 318,272 vehicles built last week.
With this week's output, estimated calendar year North American production
now stands at 5,011,731, up 6.4 percent from the 4,710,197 vehicles produced
in like-1996.
U.S. vehicle production is expected to total 254,753 this week, up 6.9
percent from the 238,306 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar year
U.S. car and truck output now stands at 3,784,614, 5.6 percent ahead of like-
1996's pace.
In Canada, automakers will assemble 54,618 vehicles this week, a drop of
0.3 percent from last week's output of 54,784 units. Estimated calendar
Canadian car and truck production totals 844,847 units, 9.9 percent ahead of
like-1996 levels.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the United
States, General Motors Corp. accounts for 37.1 percent; Ford Motor Co., 31.3
percent; Chrysler Corp., 9.1 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.6 percent;
Toyota Motor Mfg. 3.7 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. 3.6 percent; New United Motor
Mfg. Inc., 3.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.6 percent;
Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.5 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc.,
1.3; BMW of North America Inc., 0.5 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.6
percent.
