Honda Announces Results for First Full Month of CR-V Sales

Honda CR-V Soars in First Full Month of Sales
TORRANCE, Calif., April 1 -- In its first full month of
sales, the CR-V blazed a new trail for compact SUVs selling 8,981 units
according to sales figures released today by American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
"March Madness obviously rubbed off on our dealers," said Dick Colliver,
Honda Division senior vice president of sales. "They went crazy selling more
CR-Vs than Toyota's all-time best month for the RAV4; in fact, they've sold
more than we expected to sell in its first four months combined!"
American Honda vehicle sales in March totaled 79,490, with year-to-date
sales tallying 205,085 units.
Boosted by sales of the all-new Prelude, year-to-date Honda Division sales
totaled 178,993, up 4.2 percent over the same period last year while total
Honda Division sales of 68,666 for the month of March fell 8.0 percent.
Led by record months for RL, TL and CL Series, Acura Division total sales
of 10,824 increased 3.1 percent over last year. The CL sales of 2,477 jumped
330.8 percent while TL sales of 3,047 increased to 39.6 percent over March
'96.
"Even though spring has just arrived, sales are already in high gear, and
'97 is going to be a great year!" said Rich Thomas, executive vice president
and general manager of Acura Division.
