Toyota Motor Sales Announces Promotions and Reassignments

Toyota Motor Sales. U.S.A., Inc. Announces Large Number of Promotions and Reassignments
TORRANCE, Calif., March 27 -- A large number of promotions
and reassignments were announced today by the management of Toyota Motor Sales
(TMS), U.S.A., Inc. The changes will be effective April 1, 1997.
"Our annual spring organization change involves more management moves than
usual this year because of the launch of our New Era Business Strategy
(NEBS)," said TMS President and CEO Yoshio Ishizaka. "The creation of the
NEBS project team, which will change the way we and our dealers do business,
will cause a massive reshuffling of our headquarters staff and a large number
of promotions."
Five people will be promoted to vice president, 13 to corporate manager
and one to head of a field sales area.
Overseeing NEBS will be Richard Chitty, formerly vice president of the
Small/Sporty-Car Series Team. He will report to TMS Executive Vice President
Yale Gieszl.
NEBS will be comprised of seven areas: the New Sales Process Team, headed
by Nancy Fein, promoted from national to corporate manager; the New Service
Process Team headed by Neil Swartz, promoted from national to corporate
manager; the New Fulfillment Process Team, headed by corporate manager Don
Miller; the New Communications Process Team, headed by national manager
Michael Rouse; the Organization Development Process Team, headed by Michael
Morrison, promoted from national to corporate manager. The Process Team
leaders for the New Retail Process Team and the Information Technology Team
will be named later.
Each of these new process managers will report to a TMS Officer who will
provide high-level cross-organizational cooperation to assure the success of
NEBS. Sales will report to Senior Vice President J. Davis Illingworth.
Service will report to Group Vice President John Turmell. Fulfillment will
report to Senior Vice President Yoshi Inaba. Customer Communication will
report to Senior Vice President Jim Olson. Retail will report to Senior Vice
President Jim Press. Organization Development will report to Senior Vice
President Tom Nishiyama. And Information Technology will report to Senior
Vice President Doug West.
Donald Esmond, currently vice president of the Large-Car Series Team, will
become vice president of Toyota Division Sales, succeeding John Matt, who will
become vice president of Private Distributors, a newly created position. The
Toyota sales regions, the Retail Development Department, and Used Vehicle
Department will report to Esmond.
Alan DeCarr, currently corporate manager of sales for Lexus Division, will
be promoted to vice president of the newly combined Series Teams at the Toyota
Division. Irving Miller, currently vice president of field operations for the
Customer Services Division, will succeed DeCarr and be vice president of Sales
and Dealer Development for Lexus. Tony Fujita, currently vice president of
Sales Support at Toyota Division, will become vice president of Parts,
Service, Customer Satisfaction and Training at Lexus Division, succeeding
Robert Waltz, who will become corporate manager of Field Operations at the
Customer Services Division. Alan Cabito, formerly president of AirFlite, will
succeed Fujita as vice president of Sales Administration. Cabito will be
succeeded by Robert Maling, currently vice president of the SUV and Truck
Series Team.
John Kramer, currently general manager of the Toyota Chicago Region, will
become corporate manager of Distribution Operations, succeeding David
Pelliccioni, who will become corporate manager of Marketing for the Toyota
Division. Kramer will be succeeded by David Camden, currently general manager
of the Kansas City Region. Camden will be succeeded by Bruce Ertmann,
currently area manager of the Lexus Central Area. Ertmann will be succeeded
by Nancy Davies, currently assistant area manager, who will be promoted to
manager of the Lexus Central Area.
Guillermo Hysaw, currently national manager of Fleet & Marketing
Operations, will be promoted to corporate manager of Used Vehicles. Marnie
Warrick, currently national manager of Service & Parts Business Operations,
will be promoted to corporate manager of Customer Relations, succeeding David
Danzer, who will become vice president of Corporate Strategy and Planning.
Jane Beseda, formerly national manager of Long Range Planning, will be
promoted to corporate manager of Strategic Planning, succeeding Gilbert
Bamford and reporting to Danzer.
David Zellers, currently national manager of Quality Administration in the
Customer Services Division, will be promoted to corporate manager of Product
Technical, succeeding William Porento, who will move to the Toyota Industrial
Equipment (TIE) Division as corporate manager of Parts, Service and New
Business Development, succeeding Philip Broman, who will be promoted to vice
president of Programs and Administration at the Customer Services Division.
Shankar Basu, currently assistant general manager of Sales & Operations at
TIE, will be promoted to vice president with no change in duties.
Gilbert Bamford, currently vice president of Strategic Planning, will
succeed Vice President of Government Affairs Douglas Smith, who will retire.
Jeffrey Smith, currently corporate manager of Export Operations, is appointed
to the newly-created position of corporate manager, Special Projects. His
first project will be to oversee the collection and consolidation of corporate
knowledge on the development of Toyota in the United States and begin the task
of establishing a central library and history center for TMS. Both Bamford
and Smith will report to Olson.
Robert Daly, currently general manager of Toyota Logistics Services, will
be promoted to vice president with no change in duties. James Hall, currently
corporate manager of Logistics Planning and Administration, will head up a new
Logistics Development Project for Daly.
Barbara Jones, currently national manager of Distribution Operations for
the North American Parts Logistics Division, will be promoted to corporate
manager with no change in duties.
Marshall Johnson, currently general manager of the Toyota New York Sales
Region, will be promoted to vice president and charged with responsibility for
expanding the autonomy and operational level of the region as part of a pilot
exercise that may affect all of the Division's sales regions in the future.
Felix Serna, currently national manager of Labor Relations, will be
promoted to corporate manager with no change in duties. Patrick Breene,
currently vice president of Finance and Administration at Toyota Motor Credit
Corporation (TMCC), will succeed Gregory Willis as vice president and
corporate controller at TMS. Willis will become vice president of Finance and
Administration at TMCC. Michael Groff, currently national manager of the
Operations Implementation Team at TMCC, will be promoted to corporate manager
with no change in duties.
Robert Nakashiba, currently national manager of Accounting, will be
promoted to corporate manager of Accounting. Neil Overstreet, currently
national manager of Financial Control at TMS, will be promoted to corporate
manager with no change in duties. Ralph Perez, currently senior managing
counsel, will be promoted to assistant general counsel with no change in
duties.
