AAA Members Upbeat About Spring Travel

SAN FRANCISCO, March 21 -- Joy rides at theme parks,
sunbathing on beaches and testing Lady Luck at casinos are a few spring
activities that AAA members have chosen in northern California, Nevada and
Utah.
The six most popular AAA travel destinations this spring are: Disneyland,
Los Angeles; Disney World, Orlando; Hawaii; Las Vegas, Nevada; London,
England; and the Caribbean by cruise.
"AAA members are upbeat about traveling this spring," said Mike Caplin,
AAA Travel Agency Manager. "Spring airfares are down and travel promotions
are up, contributing to the upswing attitude of AAA travelers."
    Favorite spring auto travel destinations are:  the Grand Canyon;
Disneyland, Los Angeles; Las Vegas, Nevada; Vancouver, British Columbia; Lake
Tahoe; and Monterey.

    Travel Tips
    * Use public transit or arrange to have someone drive you to and from the
airport to avoid traffic and parking delays.
    * Plan to arrive an hour-and-a-half prior to domestic flights, and two
hours ahead for international flights.
    * Carry emergency items in your vehicle, such as a flashlight, fresh
batteries, flares and a cellular phone.
    * To avoid fatigue from driving long periods, plan to stop every 2 hours
or 100 miles.
    * Never leave your car unattended with the key in the ignition while
paying for gasoline. Many vehicles are stolen this way.
    * Carry an extra ignition key in your pocket. Many motorists lock
themselves out of their car while attending to problems after a breakdown.
    * Do not leave your luggage or valuables in your car overnight.
