20 March 1997
Uh, Oh ... Better Get MAACO! MAACO Paints Its 10 Millionth VehicleWILMINGTON, Del., March 19 -- MAACO Auto Painting & Bodyworks yesterday celebrated the painting of its 10 millionth vehicle. MAACO's first center opened 25 years ago at 2400 Gov. Printz Blvd. in Wilmington, DE, which Tuesday was the site of the symbolic award. Newcastle, DE, resident Benjamin Satchel received his beautifully repaired and repainted 1994 Volkswagen Jetta GLS at no charge, and was also awarded a MAACO jacket and other souvenirs. "While we don't know for sure that this was precisely our 10 millionth customer, the original Wilmington center represents the company's heritage and commitment to continued service as we look forward to our next 25 years," said President Mark Martino. Today the franchise chain comprises about 500 centers throughout North America and collectively paints about 650,000 vehicles a year. The company's humorous "Uh, oh ... better get MAACO!" commercials made it a household word in the early 1980s and have been revived periodically since then. A new series is being readied for this spring. MAACO is currently enjoying its best year ever, and existing store sales have increased every year throughout the 1990s. "With new vehicles costing more each year, many people are electing to keep their present ones for longer periods of time," Martino explained. "MAACO is the world's largest chain of auto painting and body repair centers, by far, but we work with each customer individually to provide them with the best value in the industry. "MAACO also does a lot of business with new and used car dealers, and private parties looking to sell used vehicles," Martino added. "And we do lots of accident repair work as well." MAACO headquarters are in King of Prussia, PA. SOURCE MAACO Enterprises Photo available via NewsCom, 305-448-8411 or http://www.newscom.com
