UAW Announces Tentative Agreement with Automotive Component Carrier, Inc.

FLINT, Mich., Feb. 28 -- The UAW has reached a tentative
agreement with Automotive Component Carrier, Inc. (ACC) on a new contract
covering approximately 565 members of UAW Local 659 at seven ACC facilities in
Michigan.
The tentative settlement was announced in a joint statement from UAW
President Stephen P. Yokich, Vice President Richard Shoemaker, and Region 1C
Director Ruben Burks.
"The solidarity and support of the UAW membership at ACC were the keys to
reaching this excellent new agreement," the UAW leaders said.
Details of the tentative agreement are being withheld pending ratification
meetings, which are being scheduled for next week in Flint.
The new agreement will cover truck drivers, mechanics and operational
support personnel at Automotive Component Carrier's four main terminals in
Flint, Lansing, Pontiac and Saginaw, and three satellite terminals in Detroit,
Milford and Ypsilanti.
The new collective bargaining agreement is the first between the UAW and
Automotive Component Carrier since the operation was purchased from General
Motors Corporation in April 1996 by ACC, a Penske company. Until their
previous contract expired at 12 noon, Friday, February 28, UAW-represented
workers at ACC continued to be covered under the terms of the UAW GM National
Agreement.
