ITT Automotive Announces Exhibit for SAE 1997

21 February 1997

ITT Automotive Introduces Innovations in Systems and Components at SAE '97

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Feb. 20 -- ITT Automotive will introduce
significant innovations in motors, sensors, wipers and stability management at
the 1997 SAE International Congress and Exposition at Cobo Center in Detroit
(Booth #2020).
ITT Automotive will profile these innovations during a news briefing at
9 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, in the ITT Automotive News Conference Room
D3-17/18 at Cobo Center during the SAE Conference.

    New developments include:

    Safety

    * Park Assist System -- provides an acoustic message to drivers to warn
them of obstacles hidden from view. Once an obstacle is detected, the system
will sound a tone that becomes continuous at a distance of about 10 in., or
25 cm.
    * Convertible Rollover Protection System -- sensors activate within 300
milliseconds after receipt of the activation signal to deploy a structural
rollover bar or head-restraint bars.
    * Brake Assist, Brake by Wire, Automotive Stability Management System and
Intelligent Cruise Control -- advances in vehicle control and safety.
    * Safety Seat Structure -- power seat structure comprising all-belts-
to-seat concept with belt pretensioner, side air bag and occupant sensing.

    Comfort and Convenience

    * Advantec(TM) motors -- meet stringent technical control requirements
with integrated electronics designed to minimize variation and provide quieter
in-vehicle operation.
    * Auto-up Window Lift Motor -- an electronically controlled window lift
motor featuring auto-down and auto-up with obstacle detection.
    * Dual Speed Motors -- installed in a front seat power adjuster to
enhance ease of rear seat entry for two door vehicles.
    * Auto-Close Sunroof Actuator -- an electric motor actuated for opening
and closing the sunroof, with appropriate safety features integrated into
system electronics.

    Electronics

    * Steering Angle Sensor with Integrated Clock Spring -- steering angle
sensor which measures absolute steering wheel angle and rate of angle change.

    Air and Thermal Management

    * Hydraulic Engine Cooling -- through systems integration, delivers
improved engine and air conditioning cooling during idle and heavy load
conditions.
"These new developments reinforce our commitment to respond quickly to
customer demand for breakthrough products that improve vehicle safety while
enhancing the motorist's performance and driving experience," said
Laurence E. Burns, president, ITT Automotive, North/South America.
Other highlights of the show include presentations of technical papers by
ITT Automotive employees. They are:
