13 February 1997
Detroit Diesel and MTU Introduce Series 2000 Marine EngineDETROIT, Feb. 13 -- Detroit Diesel Corporation and MTU Motoren- und Turbinen-Union Friedrichshafen GmbH signed a cooperative agreement in late 1994 to combine the vision and depth of American and German engineering and manufacturing. Building on heritages of quality, these two established engine manufacturers empowered a joint project development team utilizing the resources of both companies. We are pleased to present the result of this cooperation: the Series 2000(TM) marine engine. Developed from the Mercedes-Benz 500 Series engine platform, the Series 2000 engine incorporates Detroit Diesel's and MTU's extensive engine technology and application expertise. Optimum integration of technology and components enable the Series 2000 engine to make a distinctive contribution to the high horsepower marine market. Detroit Diesel's President, Lud Koci, adds "Bringing a new product to market is a major undertaking. Detroit Diesel and MTU have successfully pooled resources to design and develop a new engine in a short period of time and at relatively low cost." Equally important is the decision by Detroit Diesel and MTU to create a seamless sales network around the globe. The complementary regional strength of both organizations will create a service support network which will be second to none in the number of trained distributors and dealers. Customers will be able to obtain complete service and support for the Series 2000 engine through a worldwide network of distributors, who will also handle existing Detroit Diesel Corporation and MTU product. Two new companies, DDC MTU Americas Company, LLC and MTU DDC International GmbH, will provide worldwide sales support. Detroit Diesel Corporation designs, manufactures, markets, services and provides aftermarket and remanufactured products for a full range of high performance diesel and alternative fuel engines from ten to 10,000 horsepower and offers financing through its Detroit Diesel Capital Corporation subsidiary. Detroit Diesel serves the on-highway truck, coach and bus, automotive, construction, mining and industrial, power generation, marine, and military markets through a worldwide network of over 2,500 authorized distributors and dealers.
