FORD Motorsports - Rockingham Qualifying Quotes

Rockingham, NC

DALE JARRETT -88- Quality Care/Ford Credit

"For Dale Jarrett, that's a good lap. Qualifying not my strong suit, but the guys gave me a good car and hopefully we can stay on the roll we're on."

ERNIE IRVAN -28- Texaco Havoline

"It's better than last time, but we're not running very fast. We don't know why, but we'll keep working on it. "

BILL ELLIOTT -94- McDonalds

"That's about four- tenths better than we practiced. I'd have felt lucky to run in the 80s. That goes to show about my guys. They don't give up. Just like Daytona, we tried things right up 'til Saturday afternoon last week, and it showed in the Daytona 500. I'm proud of them."

RUSTY WALLACE -2- Miller

"That's running pretty good. I usually slow up when I qualify. I feel pretty good about everything. It feels pretty good just to be back at Rockingham. The boys have a great attitude and the weather's great and everything just seems to be going great here this weekend. We'll put the race set-up in it tomorrow and maybe have a good weekend here all the way around."

MARK MARTIN -6- Valvoline

"We just didn't run fast for qualifying. We'd been practicing right there this morning, but we just didn't run fast enough today."

HUT STRICKLIN -8- Circuit City

"That was a pretty fun lap. It was more exciting than last lap when we sat on the pole. We had our work cut out for us today, but the guys worked hard to get us up to speed and we turned in a pretty good lap."

JOHN ANDRETTI -37- Kmart/Little Caesars

"I'm real tickled with that. The car we brought here is one we really like racing but it's not supposed to qualify that well. Maybe that's a sign of good things to come."

KENNY WALLACE -81- Square D/TIC

"We are so happy with that run. The car has been good all day. We gained two-tenths of a second from our practice and I think I got that in turns three and four. I went into three so hard, and the car just stuck to the track. This team is a on a roll and we've got a rhythm. I've been talking about preparation, and that's the key. When we were winning in the Busch Series, we were prepared week-to-week. Now in Winston Cup, we have our act together. Cars are ready for the next couple of weeks, and we hit the track ready this morning. This is the only way to race, and I think some great things are in the future for this team. Filbert's spending more money and the car is there for me this year. It's not a fluke."

JEREMY MAYFIELD -98- RCA

"We felt good about Rockingham and looked forward to coming here. We ran good in both races last year. We weren't as fast as we wanted to be off the trailer this morning, but the guys kept working on it and got us back into the top-10 in qualifying. I'm happy with that. "

JEFF BURTON -99- Exide Batteries

"We're pretty happy with that. It's not the pole, but it's going to put us safely in the race and we can turn our attention to the race. That's two pretty good qualifying runs we knocked off here, so that's good."

RICKY RUDD -10- Tide

"That's better than we practiced, but it's not turning like it needs to for qualifying. It'll be good for the race, but it's just not what you want for qualifying. The key is to get that thing to stick in the turns, and it's just not doing what we want it to do today. It'll be good for the long runs. "
