Pontiac Motorsports - 500 Quotes

Daytona Beach Fla.

Rick Mast #1 Hooters Grand Prix

"The race started and everybody was just jumbled up. They had that crash there coming through the tri-oval, and I saw it happening from way back. I was getting slowed up and then I was just in the middle of smoke. I was holding the car straight and the next thing I know I got sent sideways. It was over for us then. It knocked the front end out of whack. The guys got it back together pretty good. I got to hold it wide-open later on. We ended up with a conservative setup. We ended up stiff. We didn't use that soft stuff. It looks like all the Pontiacs had trouble. I mean I had trouble, Ward had trouble. Going into the race I thought those might be the two strongest Pontiacs. They just had trouble. As far as Rockingham is concerned, I'm looking forward to going anywhere right now."

Chad Little #97 Sterling Cowboy Grand Prix

"It's a shame, darn it. I thought we we're running pretty good. The guys told me we were almost up to the top-10. The car was really handling. I wasn't having any problems high or low. It's unfortunate. It was so tight out there for three or four laps in a row. Someone cutright in front of me, and then it was just a melee."

Ward Burton #22 MBNA Cowboy Grand Prix

""We had a really good car. The new Pontiac did a great job for me. I don't know what made me hit the wall the first time. The car was getting tight. It got real tight in two laps. It just didn't turn. I hit the wall all just a little bit the first time, and we were probably all right after that. But two or three laps after that I had to back all the way out of it. Then the 41 car hit me.. the car was darn fast. It's a shame I couldn't keep it there all day"

"I'm not going to put any undue pressure on us going to into Rockingham. (He won his first Winston Cup race there last fall.) Everybody is asking me about that race. We had a good car there last time, and I think we'll have a good car there this time. But there are a lot of other tracks where this team is going to run good."

Kyle Petty #42 Coors Light Grand Prix

"I don't know what slowed us up so bad there at the end. I don't know if somebody hit me or what. The new car was pretty good. Not bad. You can tell tons of improvement. You can drive this car. The other one you couldn't drive."

Bobby Hamilton #43 STP Grand Prix

"The motor bogged down. We were in real good shape, and all of sudden it just quit quit pulling. The car drove good. The motor quit pulling when we were up there around fifth, and then we lost the draft. We had just taken on two tires to get up there. Then we came back and took four, and it kept slowing down and slowing down. It drove good, though.

The motor we ran yesterday in practice was good, but the plugs didn't look good in it. We'll know know more about it when Rick (Mann) dynos it. We've been playing a guessing game on the motors. We just started doing our restrictor stuff in-house. It wasn't bad for the first time and Rick will get them better. The beautiful part about this thing is that the car is done. We don't have to worry about the car.

We ran well at Rockingham last year. We had a flat when we were running with Gordon and Bobby Labonte. But then the motor broke. That was the only failure we had all of last year. We feel pretty good about going to Rockingham and real good about going to Richmond. I just wanted to see the checkered flag in this thing."
