Dale Jarrett was assesed a one lap penalty following the Transouth Financial 400. Jarrett knew had would have to pit for fuel, but when he realized his engine had quit before he could reach his pit - he decided to pit on the backstretch in his teammate - Ernie Irvans' pit. Because he required a push by Irvan's crew as well he broke the rule that states "assistance is not permitted" once the white flag is displayed - as it was in this case.
Jarrett finished 15th, one position behind Earnhardt - who closed the gap in the points by 3. Jarrett has 783 points to Earnhardt's 736 for a lead of 47 heading into race #6 at Bristol International Raceway next Sunday.
