BIR's .533 mile high-banked track makes for great racing and is truly one of the great sites on the Winston Cup circuit. With 80,000+ fans in the stands you always get the feeling you're in a "sugar bowl" when you're in the infield. On drawback - from the team's perspective - is the lack of room to properly set up shop. With no permanent garages - each team had set up shop on pit road. Winston Cup teams on the frontstreach and Busch teams on the back. To protect themselves from the elements each team has erected a canopy to work under.
Problem now is, the Winston Cup teams have to pack up and try and find some space - somwhere - so the Busch teams can set up their pits. To compound the issue - a number of Winston Cup teams have decided to change engines before their last practice session floowing the Busch race. Earnhardt, Rudd, Craven, Geoff Bodine and Hamilton.
For fans with infield access - it is an opportunity to see a Winston Cup team at work up close and personnal.
