The Pro Stock Truck duo of John and Mike Coughlin ended the '00 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season with plenty of positive momentum. John ended up with the number four on his yellow and black Chevy S-10 when the season was completed. The number six position is where Mike stopped his quick rise in the points after failing to qualify for the first three truck race in the '00 NHRA season.

"I am really looking forward to the starting of the '01 NHRA Winston Drag Racing season," said John Coughlin. "I always look forward to hearing the engine start and especially doing the first burnout of the season. I have a smile from ear-to-ear."

John and Mike Coughlin took part in a two-day test session at Houston Raceway Park. The Jeg's machines spent the second day of testing competing in the annual Pontiac Pro Stock Super Bowl.

Both of the Jeg's machine were highly watched when they made their runs over the two days of testing. They both made several runs that put them positioned firmly in the top five spots during each day. John was defeated in the second round and Mike marched on to the semifinal round where he lost to eventual winner Scott Perin in the Pontiac Pro Stock Super Bowl.

"This was a first for us. It proved to be a very worth while test session," noted Mike. "I think that we once again be a competitive threat to win at every event."

John echoed his brother Mike by saying; "Everyone in Houston was dealt their cards from the same deck. The opportunities and conditions were the same across the board."

Team Jeg's will return to the quarter mile battlefield with the familiar yellow and black-patented paint scheme. The Pro Stock Truck duo will start the '01 NHRA season with the same vehicles. However, they are both looking forward to new hot rods before the end of the season.

The NHRA will celebrate their 50th Anniversary during the '01 season. The Coughlin family knows the importance of celebrate Anniversaries. The 40th Anniversary of Jeg's was celebrated in style during '00 NHRA season.

"50 years is a long time no matter how you look at it," said John. "Our family has grown up in the sport and it has made us closer as a family because of our involvement in the sport. This year gives us all the opportunity to look back and see how bright that the future is for the sport of NHRA Winston Drag Racing."
