Indianapolis, IN--- Team Motorola General Manager Kim
Green is pleased to
announce the management for the #39 entry of Team Motorola. In creating
the
new organization, Green was able to draw on the depth of experience at
Team
Green--built over its successful six- year history in the CART FedEx
Championship Series."I had a sense of how we wanted the management structure to look when we announced Team Motorola," said Green, "but a key factor in our success would be how these people work together. The interaction of the group during testing solidified the management decisions and I think we've put together a very strong and talented group."
Heading the day-to-day operations for Team Motorola will be Team Manager Tony Cotman. Cotman begins his 13th year in racing in 2001 and his fourth in the capacity of Team Manager. Cotman, prior to managing Team Motorola, was the Team Manager and Crew Chief on the #26 entry for Team KOOL Green and driver Paul Tracy. As crew chief, Cotman led the pit crew to the championship in the Craftsman Pit Crew Challenge for the 2nd consecutive year ('99 and 2000), beating all other CART FedEx Series entries. Cotman is looking forward to the new challenge.
"Team Motorola will be a strong contender in the 2001 FedEx Championship Series", said Cotman. "We've put together a very strong team and we've definitely got the experience and knowledge on Team Motorola to win a championship."
Assisting Cotman will be John Cummiskey. Cummiskey has been promoted to Chief Mechanic for the 2001 season and will also perform on the #39 pit crew as the outside front tire changer. Cummiskey was the former lead mechanic of the #27 car for driver Dario Franchitti.
Eddie Jones will be the Chief Engineer on the #39 entry. Jones joined Team Green in 1997 as the Chief Engineer for Team KOOL Green's Indy Lights program working with such drivers as Chris Simmons, Greg Ray, Naoki Hattori and Jonny Kane. Although the 2001 season will be the first pairing of Jones as Andretti's engineer the two have raced together before-as competitors. Jones and Andretti both competed in the 1983 Formula Super Vee race in Long Beach, California with Andretti finishing in 1st and Jones a very close 5th place.
The management team will continue preparations for the opening of the 2001 season on March 11th in Monterey, Mexico. Their next scheduled test is Homestead in early February.
