TRACKS: Rip Michels stepping up to NASCAR Late Models at Irwindale

Rip Michels of Mission Hills, CA, will be making his
rookie debut in super late models on opening night at Irwindale Speedway
in 2001.
The 2000 Irwindale and 1997 Mesa Marin grand American modified champion
will
be piloting a brand new car for owner Lee Ladd.The team will compete in the entire Irwindale super late model schedule, contending for the championship and rookie of the year honors. They will also run selected open comp races at various western region tracks.
The year 2000 proved to be a record setting year for Rip in the modifieds. He completely dominated the division winning 10 out of 12 races, 6 fast times and setting a new track record. "The modifieds have been a great stepping stone for me and a lot of other drivers" says Michels. "Over the years I have been able to race against guys like Phipps, Johnson, Blankenship Dimarzo, Krieger, Kuhn, and others that pushed me to be a better racer."

The sponsors for the 2001 season will include, LADCO RACING, Cardservice International, Hooper's Rear End Exchange, Spangler Racing, Stick Only and VSE.
