North Devon Motor Club have won the national Alexander Forbes MSA Club of the Year Award. Club officials will be presented with their awards at the Motor Sports Association's 'Night of Champions' on Friday 19 January, when the winning club shares centre stage with the winners of every British motor sport championship. The award winners are as follows:

Overall winner: North Devon Motor Club

(Member of the Association of Central Southern Motor Clubs

North Devon were third overall in 1999, with an impressive development plan, and their submission this year clearly demonstrated that they have taken forward many of the issues within that plan to good effect, including the establishment of a dedicated junior group.

Second overall: Edinburgh University Motor Sport Club

(Member of the East of Scotland Association of Car Clubs)

Edinburgh University MSC's enthusiastic submission reflected well on a club based not only on the obvious student membership, but also retaining several life members who provide continuity and act as coaches and mentors for younger members.

Third overall: Hagley & District Light Car Club Ltd

(Member of the Association of North Western Car Clubs)

Hagley & DLCC produce quality publications to support their growing membership and actively promote the club and its range of events with a number of community-based initiatives.

Highly Commended: Highland Car Club

For becoming the first motor club in the UK to gain an "Investors in People" Award, allied to the organisation of their Snowman Rally.

Highly Commended: Sporting Bears Car Club For their efforts to benefit various charities, having raised 35,000 during 2000 and over 250,000 during the last ten years.

In addition to the above overall awards, certificates will be presented to the best club from each of the following regional associations: East Northants Land Rover Owners Club (Assoc of Eastern Motor Clubs); Wigton Motor Club (Assoc of North East & Cumbria Car Clubs); Ilkley & District Motor Club (Assoc of Northern Car Clubs); Sevenoaks & District Motor Club (Assoc of South East Motor Clubs); Plymouth Motor Club (Assoc of South Western Motor Clubs); Ross & District Motor Sport Club (Assoc of West Midlands Motor Clubs); East Ayrshire Car Club (Assoc of West of Scotland Motor Sport Clubs); Dukeries Motor Club (East Midlands Assoc of Motor Clubs); Series 3 Owners Club (Welsh Association of Motor Clubs).

Over 50 entries were received, representing a range of clubs throughout the UK. The judging panel were very impressed by the high level of research undertaken by many clubs to submit quality bids, and the time commitments which this represented, and noted that the vast majority of clubs which submitted entries also enjoyed growing membership numbers.

Past overall winners: Knutsford & District Motor Club (1993), Aberdeen & District Motor Club (1994), Ilkley & District Motor Club (1995 & 1999), Port Talbot Motor Club (1996), Torbay Motor Club (1997), Woolbridge Motor Club (1998).
