CHARLOTTE, N.C.,- With the 2000 Winston Cup racing season in the books and the Chase Racing All-Stars votes counted, the crew-members had their moment in the spotlight at Sunday's awards dinner honoring their outstanding accomplishments.
Since the start of the 2000 racing season, a distinct panel of judges monitored the moves of every crew-member at the track each week to determine the top performer in each of twelve positions. After a series of votes to narrow the field during the season, the top-three were recognized for their teamwork, dedication, leadership and performance (see winner's list at the end of the release).
"In all honesty, 50% of the guys on pit road deserve to be on the All-Star team," said panelist and NBC Sports' Benny Parsons. "You have to take the whole team into consideration and look at the whole team's pit stop when making a selection. The top teams almost always throw up those good numbers on their stops so that's where most of the All-Stars come from."
Those honored at Sunday's ceremony received a trophy recognizing their position as a finalist. In addition, those selected to the first team received Chase Racing All-Star rings designed by the Herff Jones Company featuring an ornate pit stop scene and ruby gemstone.
Chase Authentics has been a partner and the title sponsor of the 2000 Racing All-Stars season, however a new title sponsor is being sought for 2001.
"We appreciate the fact that Chase Authentics stepped in to help us get the All-Stars program off the ground," said Beth Westmoreland, program director. "They were an excellent partner and we sincerely hope that they can continue to be involved with the program in some manner in 2001."
The Chase Racing All Stars program was developed, in conjunction with the Crew Chief Club and The Motorsports Decisions Group, to bring attention to the hard working race team members who are outstanding in their positions.
