Tracy Hines of New Castle, Ind. is USAC's 2000 "Super License" Champion, amassing the most points of any driver in USAC "National" feature-race competition. He thereby earns a complimentary license to compete in all three series in the year 2001!
Hines trailed Jay Drake until the final night of the year, but overcame a 14-point deficit with his third-place finish in Thursday's "Turkey Night Grand Prix" Midget race, while Drake failed to finish the 100-lapper and was listed 24th in the official results.
Hines won this year's Coors Light Silver Bullet championship and his 232-point margin over Drake in that series proved to be the deciding factor. Drake, who finished second in both the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car and MCI WorldCom National Midget Car Series, out-pointed Hines in both, but fell 25 points shy in the final three-series tally.
Hines will receive his "Super License" at the 45th USAC National Awards Dinner, presented by the Stoops Automotive Group, January 5 at the Westin Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, Ind. Tickets for the dinner are still available and can be ordered by calling the USAC Office at (317) 247-5151.
