INDIANAPOLIS - A statement from Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation President and Chief Executive Officer Tony George about the naming of Bill France as chairman of NASCAR and Mike Helton as president of NASCAR, which was announced today:
Bill France is one of the most powerful forces in the history of American motorsports, and I am glad he will continue to play a major role as chairman of the board of directors of NASCAR. As family men, we have both been deeply involved in our industry as family business activities. We share an appreciation of the importance of family, and I have greatly benefited from knowing and working with Bill and his family. I know that he is very proud of his children, Brian and Lesa, and of his brother, Jim, and his wife, Betty Jane, and how they have contributed to the growth of NASCAR. Our Indianapolis Motor Speedway family extends our congratulations to the France family, and to Mike Helton, the new president of NASCAR. Mike has demonstrated his ability to work with the France family in moving their business forward, and we are pleased that we will continue to work closely with all of them.
